Bio: Joanne Carey has been in the dance industry more than 30 years and has served on many sides of the profession: dancer, performer, artistic director, program director, choreographer. She began her career as a modern dancer in NYC and then became a dance educator and studio owner for 23 years.
Throughout her tenor as studio director, Joanne worked with and collaborated with wonderful and talented artists from costume and lighting designers, to backstage crewand production crews, to behind the scenes and front of the house! All the people whose talent and energy bring this art form to the audience so stories can be told. She was the first studio in her area to create a special needs dance program when no one else would.
In 2015, Ms. Carey became an ABT/NTC ballet teacher Pre-primary-Level 3, which reaffirmed her love of ballet, her love of dance and her passion for the art form while fanning the flames of her belief that dance changes lives and is needed to keep telling our stories. Her commitment to spreading the benefits of dance and giving artists a platform to express and inspire others is what lead her to create her podcast:
“Dance Talk” ® with Joanne Carey was first launched in December 2021 using the Instagram Live platform in response to the exuberant return to live performance after months of the pandemic shutdown. It provided the community a behind the scenes view into the beautiful and exquisite art-form while giving dancers, artists, dance educators, artistic directors and creatives in the industry a place to share their stories.
Ms. Carey says that “dance touches lives on so many levels, in so many ways and creates some of the best story tellers alive. Dancers live history, tell history and preserve history all the while pushing the boundaries of motion and emotion to create the sublime, the beautiful and the reflection of the soul.” She wants to keep telling theses stories and hopes that by doing so on her Dance Talk podcast more and more people will come to experience the inspiration, beauty, healing and peace that she has witnessed dance provide as well as through the stories her weekly guests so generously share with her.
When asking her guests ,what is it they want to accomplish and offer the audience through the platform of dance, the common denominator is – to be a good example, doing good , give back and inspiring others. Dance is a language that knows no barriers and can be spoken; elevating our heart and mind.
