The Secret to Lasting Weight Loss: Rita Trotter’s Chan6e™ 6-Step System

Rita Trotter is a name that is becoming increasingly well-known in the world of health and fitness. She is a fitness coach, author, and speaker who has dedicated her career to helping people achieve their weight loss goals and improve their overall health. Trotter is the founder of Chan6e™, a six-step system that focuses on long-term weight loss and healthy living. In this article, we will take a closer look at the Chan6e™ system and how it can help you achieve lasting weight loss.

The Chan6e™ system is based on six key principles that work together to create a holistic approach to weight loss. These six steps are:

1. Conscious Choice: The first step is to become aware of your food choices and the effects they have on your body and overall well-being. Trotter believes our eating and drinking choices are in a state of pure reaction, and hence we are never in control of our habits. This includes asking yourself questions like: What am I eating? What do I feel after eating? Is this a healthy choice? By asking yourself these simple questions, you are allowing your automatic nervous system to take back control and make healthier choices for your body.

2. How Do I Feel?: After becoming aware of your food choices, the next step is to ask yourself how you feel after eating certain food items, especially unhealthy food choices. Are your unhealthy food choices based on fear, sadness, or loneliness? Or is it because you are happy? Whatever feeling you may be having, there’s always a healthier solution for you, and we are here to help you learn how to navigate that feeling without needing food to get away from it.

3. Action Being Taken:  The third step is being open about what action is being taken so that we can take ownership. All too often, we brush aside the thought of our actions as it is painful to admit that we are on our tenth cookie or third bottle of wine. But by naming out loud the action we are pursuing in a moment, we teach our mind to be accountable for what we are doing, and rather than running from the action and hiding in the biscuit tin, we own up to our choice and are more likely to make the change to a new alternative. Change only happens when we make ourselves uncomfortable enough to want to change.

4. Need Being Fulfilled? Understanding the needs that you are trying to fulfill can help you avoid toxic behaviours and can also help you achieve your goals. If your goal is to have a healthy relationship with food, it can be beneficial to identify what needs are being fulfilled by your food choices and if those needs can be fulfilled in a healthier way.

5. Does it Serve my Goal? : Next what you need to determine is, if the action you are about to take will serve your goal. This can be done by evaluating whether or not the action you’re about to take fits your values and aligns with the objectives of achieving a better life and staying healthy. Not only does this step allow us to recognize when something isn’t quite right, but it also helps us stay focused on achieving our goals. Additionally, reevaluating your decision before every meal can really solidify lasting lifestyle changes.

6. Empowering Alternative: Last but not least is creating an empowering alternative to the habit you are looking to change. All too often, people try to quit a habit without having an empowering alternative lined up to take its place. For instance, people who quit smoking don’t take into account the fact that they use cigarettes as a form of de-stress and relaxation. When we smoke a cigarette, we inhale deeply, causing our diaphragm to open up, and we feel that we have “relaxed.” Often ex-smokers will start to overeat because binge eating food causes our diaphragm, just like smoking, to expand, and we are then able to breathe deeper and we de-stress – we fulfil the same need as we did through cigarettes, but we have simply replaced one bad habit with another. We, therefore, must have an alternative that empowers our goals, rather than working against them, that fulfils the same need as the habit we are trying to break. If we don’t, we will end up reverting to the old habit, no matter how hard we try to avoid it.  Whether going for a walk, listening to music, reading a book or ringing an old friend we must focus on replacing the old action with a healthy new one.
