Billi-Jo Conroy is blazing trails as an entrepreneur and the creator of Blazing Bills Fermented Hot Sauce. She had been an Early Childhood Educator for the last 16 years, but In May of 2021, she started making hot sauce for personal use. After sharing her creation with a few family members and friends, they encouraged her to try selling it. She listed her first batch of hot sauce and after selling out almost immediately; she realized that maybe this could be something more. Her dream had always been to be home with her kids, so she decided to give building a business a shot. So to get started, Billi-Jo and her husband built a health-inspected kitchen on their property and a close friend helped her develop her logo and labels. Fast-forward one year, and here we are: seven flavors of hot sauce, 2 flavors of jelly and Blazing Bills is now available in over 14 locations!
Braunda Smith
Braunda Smith, AKA “Chef Lucy” Executive Chef and Owner of chef-forward bar and restaurant, Lucy Cooper’s Ice House in San Antonio and New Braunfels, Texas is a celebrity chef in her own right. Braunda, is a Southern girl with a heart of gold but, like most chefs has a thick skin that’s tough as nails. She is as fun, charming and funky-cool as the dishes she creates. Braunda and her husband, Jesse have worked in the service industry for years and years, having graduated from what she calls “bar university” or the school of hard knocks. The big moment for her was seeing their five-year plan fast track to five months when they were unexpectedly let go from the company where they had worked for 10 years.
“For me, having this dream of seeing the colors come to life on the walls and Lucy Cooper’s developing her own personality has been such a blessing. This place just has a vibe. What is it? I think it’s just an extension of that “aha” moment that we did it. The happiness and joy of all of our hard work. I get to work every day side-by-side with my best friend. I think people feel the happiness of our being happy and content. That being said, it’s also been the scariest thing I have ever done. Here I am, just this little girl from Georgia competing with the big boys. It’s exciting and every day it gets better and better,” said Braunda.
Nancy DeFilippis-Sampogna
Nancy DeFilippis-Sampogna is taking control of her life, and she’s inspiring other women to do the same. After 20 years in the corporate world, she made the difficult decision to resign from her executive position and focus on family. Shortly after she was diagnosed with Hashimoto disease, where she was told there was nothing she could do, this was her life now. She decided that wasn’t good enough and took matters into her own hands to improve her life.
Fast forward to today Nancy has pivoted her life returning to work with the family ag business (Top Tomato Foods), and pursuing her new found passion of health, wellness and helping others. Currently working towards her nutrition certification, she has also recently launched her Instagram account: @WithGSpeed where she shares her experiences and journey in hopes of inspiring and empowering others to take control of their health – when they may be feeling hopeless.
Amanda Schlichting
After serving honorably in law enforcement, Amanda Schlichting broke into the private investigation business via brilliance and branding. Leveraging her specialty in animal cruelty cases, she formed Cool Cat Investigations LLC. Schlichting’s out-of-the-box approach to intel includes both tech-y and traditional investigative work, along with specialized categories such as occult abuse, human trafficking, and animal cruelty. She has taught Report Writing and Interview/Interrogation at the University of Missouri Law Enforcement Training Institute Animal Cruelty Investigations School.
She’s also rocked as a bounty hunter/fugitive recovery specialist, bringing rare skill sets to her company, and her industry. With law enforcement increasingly moving toward outsourcing and privatization, Schlichting has positioned her agency to work cases which law enforcement is unable to investigate.
